Why Rizzo Mattson Gives Thanks for These Wonderful Local Nonprofits

Ever since we first opened our doors as a real estate firm in 1983 (then known as Ross, Rizzo & Hanna Real Estate), Rizzo Mattson REALTORS® has been driven by two passionate goals: to serve our customers caringly and honestly, and to serve our local community in the same spirit. Now, with 21 agents on our team, we are proud that each of our agents cares very deeply about the communities we live in, and about the greater Augusta, Maine area as a whole. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches and we all ponder our many blessings, we wanted to take a moment to spotlight 12 local nonprofits whose vision, passion, and hard work uplift and bless our community all throughout the year. They include:

  •  Johnson Hall … the oldest opera house in Maine, Johnson Hall has presented a wonderful range of plays, movies, concerts, and other arts for more than 150 years.

  •  Good Shepherd Food Bank … working with food donors, philanthropic supporters, and local partners, this organization reduces food-insecurity across Maine.

  •  Special Olympics Maine … from a backyard summer camp to a global movement for people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics has been changing lives and attitudes since 1968.

  •  Knights of Columbus … these 2 million Catholic men are on a mission to create lives of faith in action, boldness in brotherhood, and meaningful living.

  •  Capital Area Recreation Association … this vital association provides healthy, life-empowering recreational opportunities for all members of our Augusta-area community.

  • The Boys & Girls Club of Augusta … this community organization inspires youth to reach their full potential and become active members of our community.

  •    Capitol Area Babe Ruth League … this competitive baseball league for 13 to 15-year-olds, teaches skills, mental and physical development, sportsmanship, and fair play.

  • Camp Bomazeen … this Boy Scouts of America camp is located on a spectacular beachfront in the Belgrade Lakes region, offering day camp and weekend camping opportunities.

  •  Cobbossee Lake Association … this nonprofit serves as a proactive steward of the lake, committed to protecting and improving all aspects of water quality, lake beauty, and enjoyment.

  •  Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec … this local affiliate has served the literacy needs of individuals in the southern Kennebec and northern Lincoln County areas for almost 50 years.

  •  Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors’ Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Oil Auction … these are just two of the generous “giving back” efforts led by our local professional association of realtors.

  •  Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors Annual Golf Tournament … this popular annual charity golf tournament raised more than $13,000 for local nonprofits last year.
