Wow! What a difference a year makes, right? Last year, when we thought of summer festivals and local events, we immediately thought, “Cancelled!” Fast forward to today, and we see there are TONS of fun-filled festivals and local events coming this August to the Augusta and Kennebec Valley area. Here are just a few we recommend! (Please note that Maine CDC guidelines may be in place for some events.)

Skowhegan State Fair

Skowhegan Fairgrounds / August 12 – 21

Held every year since 1818, the Skowhegan State Fair has been America’s oldest consecutively running agricultural fair. This year’s don’t-miss-’em events include everything from truck pulls to harness racing to great live bands to a demolition derby to I.W.E. wrestling to family-fun “Just for Kids” activities. Augusta Elks Summer Music Festival

Augusta Civic Center Drive / August 13 -14

Join Augusta Elks Lodge #964 for their 4th Biannual Summer Music Festival! The gates open Friday, August 13th at 5:30 p.m., and featured singer-songwriters and bands include everyone from local legends Working Class to rock/pop/country band Ellis Falls. Other featured bands/artists will be Archie & Chuck Hines, The Shack, Garrett Holt, Grand Orange, and No Guts No Glory. 50th Annual Blueberry Festival

Winslow Congregational Church / August 14

One of central Maine’s all-time most popular, beloved, and downright yummy summer events, Winslow’s annual Blueberry Festival turns 50 this year! Over 700 to-die-for blueberry pies—along with a host of “all things blueberry” baked goods—will be complemented by live music, local crafts vendors, a popcorn vendor, an agricultural exhibit featuring goats, a firetruck and police car, and more. The Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival

Litchfield Fairgrounds / August 26-29

A fast-pickin’ institution since 1991, this family-friendly festival delivers some of the greatest bluegrass music you’ll ever hear. Every year, thousands of music lovers from around the world descend on Litchfield to delight in world-class banjos, fiddles, and high-lonesome harmonies. Windsor Fair

Windsor Fairgrounds / August 29 through September 6
