5 Best Parks in Augusta, Maine

5 Best Parks in Augusta, Maine

Summer is finally here! Now that things are warming up, you and your family are likely yearning to spend more time outside enjoying all that Augusta has to offer.

Here are five of the many amazing parks to play, relax, and gather in the city:

Capitol Park

Centrally located, the Capitol Park is a nice place for a picnic, ballgame, or leisurely stroll. The nearby YMCA makes it a community favorite, and it’s also rather close to the Kennebec River Rail Trail if you’d like to go for a longer run.

Bicentennial Nature Park

Augusta residents and their guests can pay a nominal fee to enjoy the many amenities here, like a large picnic area, swimming area with dock and floats, canoe and kayaking access, and more! There’s even bathrooms with running water and changing rooms for you to refresh between activities. It opens for the 2017 season on June 17th .

Williams Park

This is a great place for families to come by for a swim in the public pool, a romp on the excellent playground, or even some time on its super cool skating facilities. It opened in 2010 and has plenty of ramps and rails to perfect your skills. If you’ve got kiddos who need to burn off some energy, Williams Park is the place for you.

Viles Arboretum

A different kind of “park,” the Viles Arboretum offers Augusta residents a brush with nature in the most relaxing way possible. Enjoy a gentle stroll through its lovely gardens, take a yoga class among the flowers, or stop by for a bird watching tour or upcoming famers market.

Augusta Dog Park

The best place to take Fido in Augusta! The park has an enclosed, off-leash area so you and your pup can both run and play without worry. The park also offers an extensive set of safety guidelines (available through the link above) to ensure everyone has a good time. This park is also right behind Mill Park, which hosts an amazing Farmer’s Market all season long from 2PM to 6Pm on Tuesdays. Fido can even tag along!
